Portadown has announced that Niall Currie has departed from his role as manager with immediate effect, just two games remaining in the Irish Premiership season. Currie, who took charge of the club for a second time in October 2022, previously managed Portadown from 2016 to 2018. His tenure ended following a disappointing 4-0 defeat against Crusaders, where he criticized his team's 'abysmal' performance. Despite facing relegation in the 2022-23 season, Currie successfully led Portadown back to the top flight by winning the Championship title the following year. Under his guidance, the club also reached the BetMcLean Cup final in 2024, although they were defeated by Linfield. Last season, Portadown finished eighth in their first campaign back in the Irish Premiership, narrowly missing out on a European play-off spot. Currently, the club sits in 10th place with two matches left to play, including an upcoming fixture against Ballymena United. Niall Currie, aged 53, has also managed other clubs such as Dundela, Carrick Rangers, Ards, Loughgall, and Annagh United.
